Sapphire Coast Orchid Club Summer Show 2022
The Summer Show was presented in the Pambula Town Hall on 28 & 29 October 2022. The Show features Sarcochilus orchids supported by other exotic orchids that flower around this time, they include the very floriferous Soft Cane Dendrobiums, late flowering Cymbidiums and Masdevallias along with a variety of others. Jeff Knox presented a small display of Bonsai.
Grand Champion Sarcanthinae and Champion Sarcanthinae Hybrid was presented by Les and Anne Tudberry from Tura Beach. A Barritta bred plant, Sarco Marella featured basically a pink flower with a strongly featured spotted darker centre on 11 upright stems making quite a statement.
Les was also successful with a well flowered example of Sarco Fitzhart which was judged Champion Sarcanthinae Specimen. The large white flowers picked out with a small purple centre displayed on 22 gently cascading spikes was hard to walk past.
Our Novice entry from Kaye Bowles from Towamba showed that she can present winners with the best of them. Her Masdevalia Machu Picchu was a picture featuring six well presented deep purple flowers on a beautifully well grown plant. Look out Open growers!
Champion Sarcanthinae Species was a Sarco olivaceous, a small plant with two racemes of delicate yellow flowers presented by Keith Barrett from Nethercote.
From the other side of the Show Bob and Muriel Bell presented a Nobile type Softcane Dendrobium that captured the Judges eyes being awarded Grand Champion Any Other Orchid , Champion Any Other Hybrid and Champion Any Other Specimen. This plant feature 11 well flowered canes supporting deep pink flowers with a contrasting white and purple lip. This plant stood out in a field of very good plants.
Champion Any Other Species was a Cattleya intermedia ‘ Venosa de Heitor’ Presented by Jefferey Lee this plant featured large pink flowers set off by a dark pink Lip.
